    DDR3L 240-pin DIMM

Desktop modules that operate at speeds up to 1600 MT/s and have a CL11 latency. It is dual voltage and can operate at 1.35V or 1.5V. It is Unbuffered and is non-ECC. It conforms to the industry standard UDIMM layout of 240 pins and is compatible with computers that take DDR3 UDIMM memory.

A dual inline memory module (DIMM) consists of a number of memory components (usually black) that are attached to a printed circuit board (usually green). The gold pins on the bottom of the DIMM provide a connection between the module and a socket on a larger printed circuit board. The pins on the front and back of a DIMM are not connected to each other.

Each 240-pin DIMM provides a 64-bit data path (72-bit for ECC or registered or Fully Buffered modules).

To use DDR3 memory, your system motherboard must have 240-pin DIMM slots and a DDR3-enabled chipset. This is because a DDR3 SDRAM DIMM will not fit into a standard DDR2 DIMM socket or a DDR DIMM socket.

The number of black components on a 240-pin DIMM can vary, but it always has 120 pins on the front and 120 pins on the back, for a total of 240. 240-pin DIMMs are approximately 5.25 inches long and 1.18 inches high, though the heights can vary. While 240-pin DDR3 DIMMS, 240-pin DDR2 DIMMs, 184-pin DDR DIMMs, and 168-pin DIMMs are approximately the same size, 240-pin DIMMs and 184-pin DIMMs have only one notch within the row of pins.

New life in an old dog....

I bought this memory upgrade to breath new life into an aging Socket 775 set up that I wanted to transform into a medium level gaming machine for when my son comes to stay with me. It worked like a charm and has really help with the performance improvements we needed. The only downside was that I needed to update the BIOS before the memory would be recognised. Not sure if it's possible for Crucial to improve their system scanner to point this out in advance but this is really a very, very minor issue that I encountered

Crucial scanner excellent to get correct RAM modules. Easy to fit. Great Crucial quality and improved performance with increase from 4gb to 8gb RAM . As static always a worry, make sure you follow helpful Crucial website fitting advice and repeatedly discharge/earth yourself when fitting the modules. Easy to get rid of the static so do not be put off. This is a simple DIY task when you follow Crucial fitting instructions

My pc started throwing "out of memory errors", possibly due to our business software being enhanced. I'd used Crucial before and knew the scanner tool would identify what I could add or not. Quick and easy to work it out and order the extra memory. I'm no techie, but they are so easy to install (just remember to earth yourself first!).

I decided I need to boost my memory on my desktop to 16GB, the crucial web site helped me identify the type of memory I needed, it gave my several options and then after using the online chat to discuss my options, I decided I just needed the cheaper, more generic memory. The online chat support recommended the cheaper option as my PC is not overly powerful and isn't used for gaming, so a big thumbs up to Crucial for not trying to up sell me to something I don't need. I've used Crucial a few times in the past and I've always had great service and price.
