Would have given this 5 stars, but for 2 things:
1. It wasn't obvious that the necessary SATA to USB cable wasn't included, which was annoying because it delayed me by a day in doing the install;
2. The recommended software, although it performed excellently in cloning the original drive, simply didn't work on my Windows 10 OS when trying to use the disk optimisation tools - this seems to be a common issue on checking the forums.
These 2 gripes apart, I would recommend this drive as an upgrade to a slow preforming laptop. The increase in speed in relation to boot-up times and the loading of bloated software is impressive.
Very simple to add using their kit so no risk of losing data.
I upgraded my 500GB Crucial SSD to a 1TB as the VMs needed more space. The only issue I had was not with the SSD but the software that crucial recommend to copy the drive. It gave a warning that the drive would not be bootable and it did not boot first time but not due to the SSD copy, the BIOS had changed the boot order and made the SSD last? I have no idea why but Crucial support helped sort it out.
Bought this to upgrade a windows laptop. Good value. Supplied with disc-mirror software that easily transferred all the data from the old HDD onto this SSD. All worked well and the process was very easy.
I have upgrade all my PC's Laptops and Macs with quick SSD and boot up times are faster than the standard Hard drives, prices at Crucial are the best, I have used various models 120, 250 and 480Gb No defragging as standard hard drives lovely.
The cost of a new Mac should be astronomical and I really couldn't afford to buy a newer model. There is nothing wrong with my MacBook Pro but it was showing its age due to how slow it was. I bought this SSD as an update and add more memory. Can't believe the difference it has made. This simple change has more than halved the start up time and opening of apps is almost instant. I highly recommend this SSD to anyone. I'd previously bought RAM from Crucial so knew the quality would be excellent.
I had SSD drive professionally installed by an independent computer/IT into my 2010 27inch Quad core i7 iMac. They informed me that it will fit in behind the optical drive (without losing the optical drive). Now I have a 1TB start up disk and 1TB storage drive. Boot up is 30 seconds as opposed to 5 minutes with stock hard drive. New life in what is still a great machine!
Ok....Upgrading your MacBook HDD to an SSD is a daunting experience!! However, I can testify that it was simple and I highly recommend that you buy this SDD.
1. Download a trail copy of Carbon Copy and make a clone of your HDD to an external drive.
2. Swap out the HDD and Install the SDD, using the guide from Crucial website
3. Boot your Mac from the external drive.
4. Open the Disc Utility program and "Erase" your new SDD, remembering to name it using the same name as your old HDD. This process will make your new SDD useable.
4. Use Carbon Copy to clone the external drive to your new SSD.
5. Reboot (holding your breath) using the SSD.
6. Breath a sign of relief and pour yourself a glass of wine to celebrate!
I purchased one of these to replace my system Hard Drive in my Dell Laptop, I then formatted it in three partitions for Windows 10, Documents and Music, I then did a clean install of Windows 10, it activated first time with no hassle as laptop had already been upgraded to Windows 10 with it's existing hard drive so activation was a breeze.
Laptop is far more responsive, fast and now complexly quite apart from when the CPU fan starts up, even then it's ultra quite.
I have 2 of these installed in a 5 yearr old laptop.
It beats all the newer laptops for connectivity and functionality.
