    204-pin SODIMM for Mac

In short, 204-pin small outline dual inline memory modules (SODIMMs) are the form factor used to provide DDR3 memory modules for notebook computers and other small form factor computing platforms.

To use DDR3 memory, your system must have both a 204-pin SODIMM slot and a chipset that supports DDR3 memory. A DDR3 SODIMM will not fit into DDR2 or DDR memory sockets.

SODIMMs are smaller and thinner than regular DIMMs, and the 204-pin SODIMM PCBs are always ~2.6 inches long and are usually around 1.18 inches high (though the heights can vary slightly). They consist of a number of memory components (usually black) that are attached to a printed circuit board (usually green). The number of memory components on a 204-pin SODIMM's printed circuit board (PCB) can vary, but the PCB will always have 102 pins on the front and the back both, for a total of 204 pins. The gold pins on the bottom of the SODIMM provide the connection between the memory module and the memory socket.

After owning my iMac for a good while, I thought I should upgrade the memory from 4Gb to 8Gb. I've used Crucial before and I thought I'd have a look. First I had a look at the installation video - a masterstroke! It starts with "Welcome to Crucial, adding memory to an iMac can be done by a 5th grader." Cut to boy who says "Hi, I'm a fifth grader, and I'm going to show you how to add memory to an iMac." Then he does it. Well, if a kid can do it so can a 61 year old:-)
The order came quickly, and it really was that easy to install. Result - instant increase in performance.

I was looking forward to upgrading my iMac to 8 gb so installed new cards in spare memory slot and started pc. Shows 8 gb now installed then pc crashes with message pc shutting down due to fatal error. Restarted and same thing happened time and again. Was worried the new cards had wrecked my iMac. Removed new cards and restarted and iMac working fine as before. Memory cards are now in my bottom draw complete waste of money and not happy at all. I ran the crucial test which also told me which cards were comparable for my pc. Any help or ideas how to resolve would be helpful but don't want to put them back in just i case it does permanent damage to iMac

The product did what it said it would do. It took m a couple of tries to fit the memory cards, but that was due to my inexperience and the first time I has opened up any computer.
Took me about 10 mins to fit.
