Enjoy the efficiency of next-gen Micron ® 3D NAND

Our cutting-edge components are engineered from start to finish for efficiency. As a result, the Crucial MX500 uses only a minimal amount of power and still delivers a high price-to-performance ratio – without needing a financing plan to pay for it. Experience a faster, cooler, and quieter computer in your home or business. You’ll wonder how you ever put up with a hard drive.

Upgrade with a drive you can count on

With thousands of hours of pre-release validation, dozens of SSD qualification tests, and a heritage of award- winning SSDs, the Crucial MX500 has been thoroughly tried, tested, and proven. Secure your most important files on a drive with established dependability and these advanced features.

    1. Hardware-based encryption: Keep personal files and confidential data restricted from hackers and thieves with AES 256-bit encryption that meets all industry standards, including Microsoft ® eDrive, IEEE- 1667, and TCG Opal 2.0.
    2. Integrated Power Loss Immunity: Avoid unintended data loss when the power unexpectedly goes out. This built-in feature of our new NAND protects your data swiftly and efficiently, so if your system suddenly shuts down, you keep all your saved work.
    3. Exclusive Data Defense: Prevent your photos, music, videos, and other files from becoming corrupted and unusable with layers of error correction and adaptive read technology.
    4. Redundant Array of Independent NAND: Protect your data at the component level with an SSD that automatically provides parity protection for your data. This high-end feature works similarly to how RAID is used with multiple hard drives and maintains the integrity of your data, especially for intense users.
    5. Built-in durability: Because SSDs don’t use moving parts that wear out over time (unlike hard drives), your files are less susceptible to a crash. SSDs are better equipped to survive physical trauma, like getting dropped, because they don’t rely on mechanical parts.

    Install with confidence

For many people, opening a computer and transferring data seems terrifying. That’s why we’ve made it easy in the step-by-step Crucial SSD Install Guide. Check it out before you buy, then install your own SSD quickly with everything transferred over successfully and hassle-free.

Micron ® quality – a higher level of reliability.

As a brand of Micron, one of the largest flash storage manufacturers in the world, the Crucial MX500 is backed by the same quality and engineering innovation that has produced some of the world’s most advanced memory and storage technologies for more than 35 years. Split-second speeds, lasting reliability, and a decades-long legacy – upgrading with the Crucial MX500 gives you the best combination of quality, performance, and security. It’s worth it.

Note: 1TB = 1 billion bytes. Actual useable capacity may vary.

Though my PC is an i7 processor, performance was incredibly limited due to the HDD. I only realised how much by swapping to an SSD. The SSD is great, boot up and software load times are the fastest they have ever been. It has extended the usable life of my PC, probably for 3 years minimum. Cheaper than buying a new PC and the SSD will be re-usable in future PCs.

The journey to a faster computer was time consuming. The Acronis software did not work as expected. It refused to clone my 1TB HDD (containing around 250GB of content) onto the 500GB SSD. I tried pretty much every solution suggested by web help, the online assistance and from asking experienced upgraders. This took up about two or three days as most of the suggestions involved blanking the SSD and starting again. All these processes add up in time. It just refused to work, the issue area was the OEM recovery drive partition. I reverted to a fresh install of windows 10 by creating a bootable USB stick from the Microsoft website. This worked first time and very quickly. The result is that I have lost some of the useful software I previously had as part of the OEM. It took me time to export all of my data, then re-import it, along with re-installing lots of software and drivers. In comparison this took around half a day.

In retrospect I should have swapped out my HDD for the SSD and gone fresh Windows 10. Then plugged the old HDD back into the next SATA (SATA so no fiddly slave jumpers, plug into the next SATA), and used the data from the HDD. I still would have had to re-install some things, but I probably would have been done in less than a couple of hours!

I bought the 500Gb disk as the additional installation kit - the disk is fine, the kit is useless.

The kit comes with a USB adapter and the Acronis software to allow you to clone your disk BEFORE installing it. This just does not work!

The Acronis software refuses to identify the disk as a Crucial disk when connected via the supplier (in the same box!) USB adapter. Other free software does recognise the disk but then refuses to clone the original disk as the 'sector size' is different - so both as much use as a chocolate teapot.

Installing the disk internally (blank) causes further issues - the Dell PC refused to boot from the existing disk until I partitioned the SSD (via USB) and switched from GPT to MBR config.

The Acronis software then did it's job - it would acknowledge the disk was from Crucial and would clone the original hard disk over.

So that complete, I removed the original hard disk and put the SSD in its place, and guess what - the Dell refused to boot. Further investigation pointed to the UEFI config in the boot menu - there were now two entries labelled 'Windows Boot Manager' - manually selecting the second one worked, and after a bit of further digging I managed to change the boot priority to the second one.

Still looking to find a way to delete the first one (which points to a none-existent drive - well the drive exists but is sitting in my cupboard!).

So not totally straight forward, but got there in the end, and very happy with the results.

Never going back to spinning hard drives!

Biggest mistake I ever made = Buying an AMD chipped HP laptop.
Best decision I ever made = Replacing the internal hard drive with SSD.

If you've ever wondered if replacing your slow internal drive with SSD is worth the cost, then take it from me - it is!

Great service from Crucial, their hard drive upgrade tool is priceless.

Replaced HDD in 4 year old Samsung Chronos. Easy to follow instructions and a million times (well, a lot) faster than before; no more 100% disk usage. Photoshop loads in 20s - used to be several minutes.
Only downside is that I could only afford 500GB - the 1TB version is more than double price of 500GB. Not major, many new laptops ship with less than that and I have been using an external drive for photos for some time anyway.

Fairly easy to fit and made a big difference to the performance of an aging MacBook. Had to purchase a couple of small screwdrivers and a USB-SATA cable, but they won't go wrong.

    Cons

      Best Uses

My doubts about buying this were totally unjustified, great product, great instructions and easy to install.

My 2010 Macbook Pro was incredibly slow and i was going to scrap it. I read up about and took the plunge to upgrade it instead with 8G Crucial Ram and 500G Crucial SSD. I copied the existing hard drive into the new SSD (using a plug in external 2.5 portable drive, overnight), then i took 20 mins to install both the RAM and SSD myself following their instructions. Easy.

        Best investment i've made.

The Drive is fine, Crucial Cloning Utility is Fantastic!

        By Simon

What's there to say about a SSD? Bought it to upgrade an existing SSD in a laptop.
What stands out about this is the Crucial Cloning Facility. Took about 20minutes to make a fautless clone of the existing drive, swapped it with the existing, booted up and everything worked just as before!! Really recommend this
