    Crucial laptop memory

The fastest, easiest way to improve your laptop‚s performance

There‚s an easy cure for a slow computer: more memory. Designed to help your system run faster and smoother, Crucial Laptop Memory is one of the easiest and most affordable ways to improve your system‚s performance. Load programs faster. Increase responsiveness. Run data-intensive applications with ease, and increase your laptop‚s multitasking capabilities.

Make everything on your computer faster
Memory is a component in your computer that allows for short-term data access. Since your system‚s moment-to-moment operations rely on short-term data access – loading applications, browsing the Web or editing a spreadsheet – the speed and amount of memory in your system plays a critical role. Load apps in seconds by increasing the speed of your memory and installing more of it.

    Multitask with ease
If you‚re like us, you use your computer to do lots of things at once. You might be editing a document, while also looking at pictures and browsing the Internet. This naturally leads to a performance problem: every app you‚re running requires memory and competes for a limited pool of resources. Overcome this by installing high-density modules in each memory slot for seamless multitasking.

    Extend battery life
One of the most important aspects of laptop performance is battery life. By upgrading your memory, you can potentially take advantage of lower voltage modules – and increase energy efficiency by up to 40% when using the latest memory technology.1 What‚s more, by simply installing more memory, you‚ll reduce the number of times your system has to access the hard drive (paging). Less paging means tasks are done faster – using less battery power.

Install with ease – no computer skills required
With just a screwdriver, your owner‚s manual, and a few minutes of time, you can install memory – no computer skills necessary. Just watch one of our three-minute install videos, and we‚ll walk you step-by-step through the process. don‚t pay a computer shop to do something you can do in minutes!

Maximize the value of your system
At a fraction of the cost of a new system, a memory upgrade is one of the most affordable ways to increase performance. Get more out of your laptopby giving it the resources it needs to perform.

Micron® quality — a higher level of reliability.
As a brand of Micron, one of the largest memory manufacturers in the world, Crucial memory represents the future of workstation and server capability. From the original DDR technology to DDR4, we‚ve engineered the memory technologies that have powered the world‚s systems for 35 years and counting. Designed for leading platforms, compatible with OEM systems and warranties, and backed by a limited lifetime warranty, Crucial memory pushes the limits on performance.

CT3665748 16gb upgrade was ordered mid afternoon and delivered the very next day by royal mail special delivery. I had searched other memory suppliers and none could offer the easy search for the correct compatible memory.

I had read horror stories of RAM being bought from these companies, and the blue screen of death , or the machine not working kept being mentioned, and this freaked me out, so I needed to be sure I was getting the right product for my spec of machine, and this (crucial) website flagged up the 16gb upgrade as a compatible product.

As soon as the product arrived, a set about replacing the RAM chips with the upgrade which was not made easy by the awkward hard drive and RAM cover.

Ensure battery is removed and machine is unplugged and discharged before you do anything.

You first need to carefully remove the small rubber bung over the centre screw on the cover which can be quite tricky to do without damage to the rubber, I teased it out without damage, and proceeded to remove the holding screw.

The next stage was to try and remove the plastic cover, this was harder than anticipated, you need to use your thumbs at each end and firmly apply pressure and at the same time pull the cover towards your body.

You will hear a slight click and a gap will appear which will allow you to free the cover and expose the RAM modules.

I then carefully freed both modules by releasing the clips. And carefully inserted the 2 new upgrade modules ensuring they both snapped into place correctly, no force of any kind is required for this procedure, and there are plenty of youtube videos on how to do this if you are unsure.

I then reversed the procedure on the cover, using thumbs to slide the cover back into place, it can be a bit fiddly and it took a couple of goes to get it back to a correct fitting, as they say, patience is a virtue.

I did not put the screw or bug back as yet, as I wanted to test to new upgrade before doing so.

I plugged the power back in and fired up the machine.

It took a bit longer than normal to boot up, and a message appeared on screen (I cannot remember what it said, but it was nothing bad), and after a while it logged onto windows.

I went to control panel and checked the system, all was OK, and it was also reading the memory as 16gb with 15.8 available.

I then fired up a graphic intensive game, to test the cooling fans and all worked as it should.

I then shut down the machine and rebooted, this time, the machine booted really fast, as it should do, I believe the slow previous boot was due to BIOS updating itself with new RAM specs.

Finally, I replaced the screw and rubber bung, and the machine has performed flawlessly ever-since, and so-far -so good, no issues whatsoever

This was the correct RAM for the N56VJ, and it does exactly as the website says, a easy and trouble free upgrade, and gets my recommendation for this spec of machine.

I only managed to install one Ram memory module as the other had a mark on the circuit board, very faint to see but was next to a chip, the computer initially slowed down and had spurious issues until I noticed the fault on one chip. It was not worth sending back for replacement as they have to be returned as a pair. I need the machine and could not afford the time to change over again. Not sure if arrived in this condition or was installed incorrectly.

Bought for my Dell Latitude E6520. Even though Dell say this model is restricted to 8GB , the chipset supports 16GB and as per Crucial's page the laptop recognises and uses the 16GB set without issue.

Reviewing RAM is stupid. If it works, it works. If it doesn't it doesn't. This works for what I want it to. It might not for you.
