    204-pin SODIMM for Mac

In short, 204-pin small outline dual inline memory modules (SODIMMs) are the form factor used to provide DDR3 memory modules for notebook computers and other small form factor computing platforms.

To use DDR3 memory, your system must have both a 204-pin SODIMM slot and a chipset that supports DDR3 memory. A DDR3 SODIMM will not fit into DDR2 or DDR memory sockets.

SODIMMs are smaller and thinner than regular DIMMs, and the 204-pin SODIMM PCBs are always ~2.6 inches long and are usually around 1.18 inches high (though the heights can vary slightly). They consist of a number of memory components (usually black) that are attached to a printed circuit board (usually green). The number of memory components on a 204-pin SODIMM's printed circuit board (PCB) can vary, but the PCB will always have 102 pins on the front and the back both, for a total of 204 pins. The gold pins on the bottom of the SODIMM provide the connection between the memory module and the memory socket.

Bought for late 2008 Mac book (silver) that originally had 2gb ram. Installation is easy even for someone that has never done a memory upgrade before. Kit works good so far. It has given new life to an old MacBook. Definitely suggested if you are upgrading to el capital.

OSX El Capitan was "unusable" with 4GB memory even in light usage. OSX was constantly compressing memory and using swap. After 8GB upgrade helped a lot. So if you're looking for 8GB kit for Macbook 5,1 I recommend this one. Remember to check if your Macbook's firmware is compatible for 8GB upgrade because officially Macbook 5,1 doesn't support 8GB. If in doubt, use Google.

I got given an old desktop Mac machine and it only had 2GB of RAM in it and it was starting to struggle doing things.

I bought this RAM to upgrade the machine (which was simple enough) and knowing that Crucial make decent RAM and the specs matching, it all works flawlessly. Rather weird that a desktop was using SODIMMS, but I guess that's just Apple for you.

After the latest update the macbook was terribly slow, almost incapable of opening a couple of text files simultaneously. Made some research and discovered it unofficially supports 8Gbs of ram. Bought the kit, installed it (a normal philips screwdriver was the only tool needed), the system immediately recognized the new memories. This was some months ago and they have been performing well ever since. Welcome back multitasking.
